Public Meeting (FIRST)

Trustees held a Public Meeting to discuss the district’s rating on the 2006-2007 Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).  The district received a “Superior Achievement” Rating. 

Superintendent’s Report

Trustees reviewed disbursements and disbursements by organization.  Trustees also reviewed the district’s Investment Annual Report for Sept. 1, 2007-Aug. 31, 2008 and the quarterly report for June 1, 2008-August 31, 2008.

School Construction Report

Construction Consultant Lisandro Ramon announced that paperwork for the 2004 bond projects has been submitted to the Texas Education Agency to be finalized.  At Miller Jordan Middle School and Ed Downs Elementary, inspections for handicapped accessibility will be taking place.  Ramon also provided a brief reported on the Science labs.  Regarding the 2008 bond projects, Ramon reported that the district expects to go out on bids in mid-November for the first project on the list: Sullivan Elementary.  

In other matters trustees approved...

  • Repairing the roof system at the UTEX Building;
  • Retrofitting the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) System at San Benito High School;
  • A contract with Halff & Associates for the engineering/design of the HVAC retrofit at Rangerville, Ed Downs, and Dr. Cash Elementary schools;
  • A resolution approving the annual review of the investment policy and investment strategies;
  • Independent sources of instruction relating to the investment responsibilities;
  • A resolution authorizing the setting of the 2008 ad valorem school taxes and providing for discounts on such payments;
  • 2007-08 budget amendments and budget transfers; and
  • Board minutes.
