Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón presented disbursements and disbursements by organization.  Trustees reviewed the district’s investment report from March 1-May 31.

Public Comment

Jesus “Chuy” Aguilera aired concerns regarding a personnel (coaching) change.

School Construction Report

Construction consultant Lisandro Ramon provided trustees with an update on bond construction projects.  Ramon reported that at Sullivan Elementary a new cafeteria is being built.  Approximately 90 percent of the block work is completed.  Classrooms are being added and the foundation of half of the classrooms has been poured.  It will take approximately three weeks before workers finish the foundation.

The district will be working on Heating Air Conditioning Ventilation improvements this summer at the following schools:

 •San Benito High School

•Rangerville Elementary

•Ed Downs Elementary

•Dr. C.M. Cash Elementary

At Landrum Elementary, school officials will be requesting proposals this month with intentions to present for board approval no later than the July regular meeting.  

In other matters trustees approved...

  • A bid on paint products and supplies;
  • A bid on the bank depository contract;
  • A proposal on student/athletic insurance;
  • Budget transfers;
  • 2008-09 budget amendments;
  • Accepting donated automotive parts;
  • The revision of the District Improvement Plan for 2009-2010;
  • The District Comprehensive Needs Assessment for 2009-2010; and
  • Board Minutes.


    Special Recognition
    Trustees honored KGBT TV 4 anchor/reporter Ryan Wolf for being named to the Texas Association of School Board’s 2009 Media Honor Roll. Wolf was recognized for fair and balanced reporting, providing valuable information to the community about public schools, and patrons.
     
    Trustees honored chess teams from the following schools: Dr. C.M. Cash Elementary, Ed Downs Elementary, Berta Cabaza Middle School, Miller Jordan Middle School and San Benito High School.  The teams were recognized for earning top awards at regional, state and national competition.
     
    Berta Cabaza Middle School seventh grader Andrea Rose Mosqueda earned recognition for receiving a medallion at Trinity University in San Antonio after participating in the Duke University Seventh Grade Talent Search competition.  She scored at or above the average on the critical reading portion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), a college entrance exam.
     
    Trustees also recognized the following:
    •After School Program (boxing);
    •San Benito High School regional and state qualifiers in power lifting;
    •Texas Music Educators Association All-State Mixed Choir honoree; and
    •San Benito High School Skills USA award recipients.
     

    Executive Session

    During Executive Session, trustees reviewed pending litigations and heard a report on personnel.
