Academic Excellence Indicator System Report presented

Trustees held a public hearing to discuss the 2008-2009 Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) Report. The AEIS Report, published annually by the Texas Education Agency, contains information on student performance at the campus and district level. The report, presented by Planner/Evaluator Ruben Franco, also contains campus performance objectives, student demographics, finances, staffing, and program expenditures. 
 
Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón announced overnight trips as follows: Special Education Department Special Olympics Bowling Team-State Winner Bowling Games Austin, Tx. Feb. 4-7; San Benito High School Belles Drill Team Marching Auxiliary Dance Regional Competition-Klein Oak High School Houston, Tx. Feb. 19-21; San Benito High School Varsity Softball Team Softball Marching Tournament Corpus Christi, Texas March 4-6.

Trustees reviewed disbursements and disbursements by organization.

Trustees honored as part of School Board Recognition Month

San Benito CISD schools honored the district’s board of trustees as part of School Board Appreciation Month, as declared by Governor Rick Perry.  The event featured students from each campus presenting appreciation items to trustees for their service to public education.  Members of the San Benito High School’s Jazz Band, under the direction of Band Director Willie Perez and assistant Alberto Ortiz, provided entertainment.  A reception was held in their honor, with family members in attendance as special guests.

School Construction Report

Lisandro Ramon presented a brief construction report. Ramon reported that the cafeteria at Sullivan Elementary has already been completed.  Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning System projects are on schedule at Ed Downs, La Paloma, Miller Jordan and Sullivan.  At Landrum the foundation was poured and the plumbing and electrical work has been completed.  At Veterans Memorial Academy, the foundation work has been completed.  Regarding the new elementary school, Request For Proposals will be done during the month of March.  

In other matters trustees approved...

  • A request for approval of windstorm, hurricane and hail insurance;
  • Proposals pertinent to the Universal Service Fund Education Rate (E-Rate 13) Year 2010;
  • Districtwide purchases totaling $222,250 from stimulus funds for interactive slates and related equipment; and construction of student drop-off at Landrum Elementary at a cost of $24,000.
  • Acceptance of substantial completion of the new Sullivan Elementary cafeteria;
  • Budget transfers;
  • 2009-2010 budget amendments;
  • The 2008-09 Annual Financial and Compliance Report;
  • Board Minutes; and
  • 2010 membership dues to the Texas Association of School Boards.


  • Executive Session

    Trustees discussed the following in Executive Session: pending litigations and heard a report on personnel. Trustees provided a salary adjustment for head coach/athletic director Spencer Gantt and unanimously approved a one-year contract extension.
