Superintendent’s Report

The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees held a Public Hearing to discuss the 2007-08 Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) Report.  The AEIS Report, published annually by the Texas Education Agency, contains information on student performance at the campus and district level.  The report, presented by the district’s Planner/Evaluator Ruben Franco, contains campus performance objectives, student demographics, finances, staffing, and program expenditures.  

Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón announced overnight trips as follows: San Benito High School Varsity tennis team Border Olympics Tennis Tournament Feb. 19-21 in Laredo; San Benito High School Belles Marching Auxiliaries Regional Dance competition-Boerne/San  Antonio March 12-14; San Benito High School Pan American Student Forum Spanish Competition & State Convention-March 13-15, San Antonio; and Miller Jordan Middle School Chess Team Competition-State  Chess Tournament-McAllen March 20-22.

School Board Recognition Month

San Benito CISD schools honored the district’s board of trustees as part of School Board Appreciation Month, as declared by Governor Rick Perry.  Coordinated by the district’s Community Relations Office, the event featured students from each campus presenting appreciation items to trustees for their service to public education.  Members of the San Benito High School’s Mariachi Del Sol, under the direction of Mark Bazaldua and Director of Bands Albert Salazar provided entertainment.  A reception was held in their honor. 

School Construction Report

Lisandro Ramon provided trustees with a construction report.  Ramon said that at Sullivan Elementary, playground equipment and portable classrooms have been removed.  He said the structural engineer is re-designing the foundation.  Sealed proposals for Rangerville, Dr. C.M. Cash and Ed Downs Elementary will be received  Thursday, Jan. 22.  The items will be presented for board approval on Feb. 10.

In other matters trustees approved...

  • Proposals on the renovations of the Science Wing “C” at San Benito High School;
  • Bid proposals on the walk-in cooler/freezer for the Child Nutrition Program;
  • Bids on a one-ton truck for the Career and Technology Department;
  • The proposal of the chiller parts and accessories for Dr. Raul Garza Jr. Elementary and Berta Cabaza Middle School;
  • The 2008 Annual Financial and Compliance Report;
  • Budget Transfers; and
  • Board Minutes.


    Executive Session

    Trustees heard personnel reports and a report on pending litigations.  Trustees approved the settlement agreement with Satterfield and Pontikes and others, as discussed in Executive Session.
