Superintendent's Report

Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón announced the following overnight trips: San Benito High School Skills USA Texas Legislative Day Feb. 14-Feb. 15 in Austin, Tx.; San Benito High School Future Farmers of America San Antonio Livestock Show Feb. 15-21 in San Antonio; San Benito High School Varsity Tennis Team Border Olympics Tennis Tournament Feb. 18-Feb. 20 in Laredo, Tx.; and San Benito High School Business Professionals of America, State Leadership Conference March 3-7 in Fort Worth, Texas.


Trustees reviewed disbursements and disbursements by organization.

Special Recognition

Trustees honored two former employees, Roger Torres, a 39-year service award recipient and Doris Baker, a 23-year award recipient.
Trustees also honored participants in the Texas School Readiness program, including principals, teachers and mentors from nine elementary campuses.

Public Comment

Parents Maria Elena Tamez and Jolie Mireles invited trustees and members of the public to the Third Annual Autism Awareness Walk set for Friday, April 23 from 6-10 p.m. at the Heavin Resaca Trail.
Members of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, led by President Isabel Gomez, presented appreciation items to trustees.  A total of 500 staff members belong to TCTA and the organization has officers at state level, including incoming state level President-Elect Dolores Ramirez, a teacher at Rangerville Elementary.

Construction Update

Lisandro Ramon presented a brief construction report on the following 2008 bond projects:
•Sullivan cafeteria, library, parking area & addition;
•Landrum;
•Veterans Memorial Academy;
•New Elementary (proposals set for mid-March); and
•Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning projects are ongoing.

In other matters trustees approved...

  • A request for approval of the proposal for the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Renovation Project for the Sullivan Elementary;
  • A request for approval of the proposal for the HVAC project at Miller Jordan Middle School;
  • A request for approval of the bids received at the Nov. 3, 2009 tax resale for several properties struck off to Cameron County for itself and other taxing jurisdictions;
  • Approval of the 2009-2010 budget amendments;
  • Budget transfers; and
  • Board Minutes.


  • Executive Session

    Trustees extended Superintendent Antonio G. Limón’s contract by one year.
