Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón reported that members of San Benito High School’s Media Technology will be traveling to the Washington Leadership and Naval Academy in Annapolis September 18-21, 2008.

Public Comment

Sylvia Gonzales, a representative for AAG, addressed trustees on an item related to employee health insurance.

School Construction Report

Lisandro Ramon, construction consultant, spoke briefly about construction projects.

Special Recognition

Trustees honored San Benito News Deputy Editor Michael Rodriguez for being named to the Texas Association of School Boards’ 2008 Media Honor Roll.  Rodriguez was nominated for the honor by the district’s Director of Communications and Marketing Celia Longoria and Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón.


Trustees honored members of KSBG-TV 17 for earning an Award of Excellence and an Award of Honorable Mention from the National School Public Relations Association for two video production promos, including Bobby Morrow Relay and Sportzone 2007.  KSBG-TV 17 Station Manager Jennifer Cavazos accepted the awards on behalf of KSBG.

In other matters trustees approved...

  • Bids on the following items: library books, teaching/instructional supplies;
  • Bids on filters for HVAC systems districtwide;
  • Bid proposals on the following HVAC parts and supplies: major parts, supplies, small equipment; labor for chiller and controls work;
  • A proposal on property/casualty insurance;
  • Proposals for the employee health benefits;
  • Budget Amendments;
  • Board Minutes;
  • 2008-2009 Equity Center Membership;
  • A request for the superintendent to negotiate and enter into a memorandum of understanding with Cameron County in regards to JJAEP;
  • Naming trustee Oscar Medrano as a delegate and trustee Roel Villarreal as an alternate for the Texas Association of School Boards delegate assembly; and
  • PDAS teacher appraisers.


    During executive session, trustees discussed pending litigations, heard a report on personnel, provided the superintendent with his formative evaluation and reviewed performance goals.
