Interesting Facts

All SBCISD PC users

In responding to some user concerns over computer slow-downs and network interruptions, we have discovered that the culprit is often a software application running in that user’s computer. Such applications generally have nothing to do with that user’s job function, and merely consume their computing and networking resources. Applications such as WeatherBug, HotBar, My Daily Horoscope, WebShots, IncrediMail, SearchBar, My Search Bar, Auction Buddy, and Bonzi Buddy provide the user with current non-work related information but take up a considerable and constant stream of network bandwidth that should be available to the normal work-related functions, to our students and other staff.

Many such applications are currently installed throughout the district on PC’s running Microsoft Windows. User complaints regarding a “slow computer” or “slow Internet” have come down to the abovementioned applications simply draining the user’s resources and creating an illusion of inadequate computing power or bandwidth. Naturally, since users are themselves installing these programs, we recommend that they delete all such applications that are not business-related. Please instruct your campus/department personnel to review their applications and delete those that are non-work related.
Since Spyware threatens the district by:

  • Increasing bandwidth consumption
  • Reducing employee productivity
  • Jeopardizing security of district's network
  • Diminishing workstation performance and network stability

Please don’t hesitate to send an on-line computer repair request if our help is needed.
