Limón named Superintendent of Schools

SAN BENITO - San Benito trustees unanimously approved naming Antonio G. Limón as the district’s Superintendent of Schools during a Special Called Meeting held on Monday, Sept. 27. Limón had been serving as Interim Superintendent since July, 2004.

Limón said he is excited about the board’s vote of confidence and is looking forward to being the district’s leader.

“One of my first priorities is to spend time at the schools, meeting with principals and discussing the goals and objectives for their schools,” he said. “I would like to thank God, the board, our staff and our entire community for their support. I intend to do the best job that I possibly can and I look forward to the many challenges and opportunities that we have yet to face.”

Limón has spent 26 years in the field of education. In San Benito, he has served as
principal at Miller Jordan Middle School, assistant principal at San Benito High School, Associate Advisor for Federal/Bilingual Programs, and Director of Personnel. While serving as principal at Miller Jordan Middle School, Limon earned Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (Region I) honors in 2000.

Born in San Benito, Limón attended Rio Hondo Schools and graduated from Texas
A&I University in Kingsville. Limón served as a principal at Mabton High School in Mabton, Washington. He also worked at the Migrant Center through the Texas Education Agency in Sunnyside, Washington.

Limón has also served as assistant principal at Harlingen High School and at Laredo United High School in Laredo. Limón also has a broadcasting background. At LJBZ Radio in Laredo, he served as general manager. He anchored the news on Laredo’s KVTV 13 and served as weatherman for Laredo’s KLDO 27.

He holds the following certifications from the state: Superintendency Certification, Mid-Management Certification, Secondary Math Certification and Elementary Self-Contained Certification.

Limón received a three-year contract and an annual salary of $120,000.
